9/4/2023 0 Comments Hp elite folio reviewIt's imperceptibly the lightest, weighing 2.92 pounds to the Spectre's 2.95 and Acer's 3.02. At 0.63 by 11.8 by 9 inches, it's about the same size as two other convertibles with 13.5-inch 3:2 displays, the HP Spectre x360 14 (0.67 by 11.8 by 8.7 inches) and Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (0.66 by 11.8 by 9.3 inches). The Folio's mostly recycled magnesium chassis is encased in handsome imitation leather with a comfortable grip and a bit of stitching on the lid. (You must decide between 4G and 5G at purchase.) The screen is a 13.5-inch Gorilla Glass 5 touch panel with 3:2 aspect ratio and 1,920-by-1,280-pixel resolution a version with HP's Sure View Reflect privacy filter is $169 extra, if you want to block airline seatmates from peeking at what you're reading or working on. You can order an Elite Folio with a 5G modem for $243 more. An otherwise identical model with a 256GB SSD is $1,889. Our $2,063 test unit combines the eight-core, 3.15GHz Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 CPU with Adreno 690 integrated graphics with 16GB of memory, a 512GB solid-state drive, and a 4G LTE modem as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth. As is, HP claims the Elite Folio offers 94% application compatibility and is perfectly suited for its intended Microsoft Office, email, browsing, and note-taking tasks. All three use a special version of Windows that runs 32-bit x86 programs in emulation mode 64-bit emulation is currently restricted to the Windows Insider Program rather than the production edition of the operating system. Its choice of a Snapdragon CPU isn't unprecedented, either: Both the Lenovo Flex 5G convertible and the Microsoft Surface Pro X tablet are fanless, ARM-architecture designs, though the latter uses a Microsoft/Qualcomm hybrid chip called the SQ1 or SQ2. It's not unique-the Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel has the same fold-forward design for the same three working modes (laptop, tablet, and tray-table easel with the display lowered to cover all but the palm rest and touchpad). HP says the Elite Folio is "the world's first pull-forward business convertible PC," with a screen hinge that makes it more stable in your lap than a tablet with kickstand and more comfortable to hold in tablet mode than a 2-in-1 that puts its keys under your fingers. The Elite Folio fills an intriguing niche for note-takers seeking long battery life, but its version of Windows 10 Pro may not run all the apps in your library, and it's awfully pricey compared to Intel- and AMD-based convertibles. For another, its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 ARM processor permits silent, fanless operation, and its choice of 4G or 5G mobile broadband keeps you connected without a Wi-Fi hotspot in sight. For one thing, it's neither a detachable tablet with a separate keyboard, nor a Lenovo Yoga-style flip-and-fold convertible-its touch screen pivots away from the bottom half of its lid, folding down to cover the keyboard in tablet mode. The HP Elite Folio (starts at $1,787 $2,063 as tested) stands out from the convertible laptop crowd, and not just because it's encased in what HP calls "vegan leather" (really, polyurethane).
